Contrary to popular belief, converting your image to Grayscale is NOT true black and white. Grayscale just strips the color information and replaces it with the closest level of gray to the saturation of the color. It’s not an exact science, but you can change all that. To make your image TRUE black and white just follow the next two steps.

Step 1: Go to Image> Adjustments> Channel Mixer
Step 2: Make sure the Monochrome option is checked, and adjust the Red, Green and Blue sliders until you get the disired effect. (Figure 1)

Note: To keep the image from looking “bleached out”, make sure the values of Red, Green, and Blue all add up to 100%. Or just ignore this note all together if that’s the look you want.
