How to Clear the Cache on the XBOX 360
Gaming Hacks, How To Guides, Xbox 360 March 28th, 2006
The Xbox 360 may be an amazing console, but every now and then it will freeze or suffer from a severe framerate drop. I noticed this while playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Sounds didn’t match up during battles, the screen would freeze completely, and opening doors would take up to two minutes. This is caused when the cache files on the Xbox 360 hard drive become fragmented and need cleared. Don’t call Microsoft and wait an hour or more for a fix. Just read this VERY simple solution.
To clear the cache of your Xbox 360 Hard Drive do the following:
1) Boot up your Xbox 360 and place a game in the DVD tray.
2) After the Title Screen for the game appears, restart your Xbox 360
3) As the Xbox 360 is restarting hold the A Button on your controller until the Xbox 360 load screen disappears.
That’s all there is to it. Now you should notice a much smoother frame rate and your games should operate at the fullest level!
Specific Instructions Related to Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

If you experience freezing screens, delayed sounds (sword clanks 5 seconds after it hits something), long pauses while searching a person or object, or anything similar then you must clear your hard drive’s cache.
1) Reset the Xbox 360 with Elder Scrolls still in the DVD drive. (Use the power button to do this)
2) Press and Hold the A button until you see the Bethesda Software logo appear on screen.

This new code allows you to clear the entire hard drive cache:
Go to the system blade and then select memory.
Press Y on the HD symbol and then press X,X,Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X,X. Once you do this a messsage will appear saying: Do you want to perform maintenance on your Xbox 360 storage devices?
Performing this function will also clear any software updates.

I’m having trouble recovering my gamertag(doesn’t concern the massive amount of XBL players, because signing in isn’t the problem.) After entering my email address and password, there will be a loading screen. Halfway through the loading screen, it will stop and I will get a sudden pop-up saying I need to make sure all cables are not unplugged and make sure you are connected to the internet. I’m getting this message although my troubleshot has passed everything. Because of this, I tried clearing cache as well, but it wouldn’t work for me either.
