Media Center Skin on Windows XP
Windows XP, OS March 31st, 2006
If you like the look of Windows XP Media Center Edition you’ll love this. With a theme download (rumored to be from Microsoft’s website) you can now easily install the Royale theme used on Windows XP MCE on your Windows XP install. Finally, you can rid yourself of the generic and somewhat childish colour scheme of the default Windows XP theme.
Things Needed
- Windows XP Professional or Home Edition
- Royal Theme for Windows XP (Instructions for this download below)
Download Royale Theme
Download Method #1 (Fast!):
Since the download from Softpedia.com is so slow, AltHack.com member bobgb4 has offered to host the file for download on his own personal webspace. Thanks bob! [Download Here ]
Download Method #2 (Slower):
We cannot link directly to this file from Softpedia, so you must visit the Softpedia Website by clicking the following link: [Download Here ] and Click on one of the mirrors to download Royal_theme.zip.

How To Install The Theme
After the download of Royal_theme.zip completes open the file in any extraction program you choose, Extract bliss.jpg, Bluff.jpg, and Royale Theme for Win XP.exe to a newly created folder named RoyaleTemp on your Desktop.

Open the RoyaleTemp folder on your Desktop and double click Royale Theme for Win XP.exe to start the installer. Enter a folder name to install the theme to. It’s recommended that you install Royale in the same folder where your Windows Install is (It’s either the WINDOWS or WINNT folder on your primary hard drive).

Click Next until the installer completes.
Using The Theme
Click Start> Control Panel
![]()
Double Click on Display

Under the Themes Tab, Choose Royale from the Theme Dropdown Box, and Click Apply.

You can now delete the RoyaleTemp folder created in the beginning of this article.
This skin is such a huge improvement over Windows XP default. Best of all, you don’t need to install programs such as StyleXP or WindowsBlinds to achieve such a great effect.

This makes XP look so much more stylish, much better then the original boring XP blue/silver/olive colours you use to have to choose from.
