Anyone who has played Animal Crossing knows how insanely addictive it is, as well as how much of a pain it is to wait for certain items to become available (Most notably, the hidden NES games). Well wait no longer.

Animal Crossing Hacks

A programmer who goes by the name MooglyGuy produced an open source program called Animal Crossing Trade Code Generator, which generates item codes that can be used at the town store to obtain things for FREE! Almost every item can now be “unlocked” simply by entering your Character Name, Town Name, and the Item Code of what you want to obtain (a complete item code list is provided on his website) into the Trade Code Generator. Develop Your Own Video Games

Gaming Hacks, Programming 1 Comment »

Blitz BasicEveryone who enjoys video games has most likely wondered how they are made, and more importantly how to make their own. The Blitz Reseach company has answered the call for a programming platform specifically for game development (in both 2D and 3D). Let me be the first to inform you that the Blitz platforms are not One-Click solutions to game development, and the user must first learn their BlitzBASIC language to utilize their product. However, BlitzBASIC is an extremely simple programming language that has all aspects of game programming covered, such as sprite generation, collision detection, GUI features, and much more. The only drawback is that this is a Commerical product, but it is modestly priced and quite affordable for anyone. Check out their site and download a demo .

Inkscape - Draw Freely

Uncategorized No Comments »

Inkscape ScreenInkscape is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw, or Xara X using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format.  Although it’s not as powerful as the forementioned products Inkscape is vastly capable of producing high-quality vector based drawings with a slick, easy-to-use interface.  Casual users (on most platforms) should respect the fact that Inkscape is Open Source, which makes it Free, Community Supported, and Open to Change Based on User Feedback. AltHack.com is currently using it to make diagrams for our upcoming tutorials including our NES Controller Mod.  So, what are you waiting for?  Check them out! http://www.inkscape.org/

Linux, USB Drive, Device Hacks 92 Comments »

Linux LogoGetting Linux to run on a USB Drive may easily seem to be an overwhelming process, but we put together a very simple guide that an absolute novice could follow.

We successfully installed a distribution of Damn Small Linux on a Lexar 512mb Secure Disk USB 2.0 Jump Drive and it worked quickly and flawlessly. There’s no guarantee that every USB Drive will boot Linux using this method (for example, the new Imation 256mb Wristband Drives would not work properly), but we feel a vast majority will work fine.
